Protection Technologies Compatibility

Protection reinvented

Today's riders are going faster and faster, farther and farther, and riding more aggressively than their predecessors. Tomorrow's riders will wear helmets SMITH.

The concept of protection is being totally rethought to enable sports enthusiasts to meet any challenge. What does "protection rethought" mean? For the brand SMITHbrand, it means surpassing safety standards, going beyond what's already been done, to offer helmets that will protect you against all four types of impact: low-speed, high-speed, rotating and multi-impact.

Impacts low speed
Impacts high speed
Impacts rotating
Multi impacts

Each of these types of impact requires a different approach, a different philosophy, a different technology. To achieve them, SMITH is developing a design philosophy based on four key criteria. SMITH s ambition is to create the very best helmets to meet most of these criteria in one go.

Bike helmets SMITH bicycle helmets are designed to encourage outdoor adventures. They feature top-of-the-range technology developed specifically to meet the needs and expectations of riders and cyclists.

The technologies

Koroyd

The Koroyd is a new material that absorbs more impact energy than international standards, while improving the flow of passing air.

This revolutionary material consists of thousands of extruded copolymer tubes, thermally welded together to create an unprecedented, perfectly homogeneous, high-tech core. Each section of Koroyd is designed according to precise characteristics of hardness, size and thickness to offer the best impact resistance and aesthetic appeal.

The precise and unique thermal welding process of the material Koroyd material results in a structure with effective and homogeneous absorption properties. As a result, on impact, the core of this material crushes in a fully controlled manner, decelerating impact energy and reducing the final level of trauma.

The open-cell construction of the material Koroyd allows cool air to enter the helmet, while expelling warm air from inside. The use of this material in helmet manufacture means you can integrate more air inlets, without sacrificing protection or comfort.

The latest tests prove that Koroyd is able to absorb up to 48 times more energy than conventional EPS helmet construction. As a result, the helmets are more resistant, and provide you with optimum protection during your riding, without the extra weight and without sacrificing effective temperature regulation.

The four main advantages
Improved airflow and ventilation
Improved impact resistance
Reduced helmet volume and weight

MIPS

The system MIPS (Multi-directional Protection System) is a safety technology that is becoming increasingly widespread on bicycle helmets, both for road and mountain bikes. Helmets MIPS helmets are characterized by the addition of an intermediate layer, between the head and the outer shell, whose movement is slightly independent of the latter. In other words, when you fall at a certain angle, rotational forces are generated. This is when the sliding layer between the outer shell and the head kicks in, allowing the rotational force to be reduced, and therefore the potential damage to your brain.

Helmets SMITH helmets are designed to absorb direct impacts very effectively and, when combined with MIPS technology, they also better absorb transverse forces by allowing the outer shell to rotate slightly in relation to the liner.

Helmets SMITH OPTICS

Compatibility with masks and goggles

At SMITHeven if protection comes first, comfort must never be neglected. So the brand designs its helmets, goggles and masks to fit perfectly.

The brand develops its helmets to accommodate the curvature of the mask and goggle frames, thus eliminating void zones. The helmets also feature an important integration factor known as "AirEvac". This ventilation system bridges the gap between mask, helmet and goggle, enabling them to function as a single system, quickly and efficiently evacuating warm, humid air from the mask via the helmet's temperature control system.

A clear view and optimum overall thermoregulation are thus guaranteed, whatever the weather conditions!
