Crankset – At the heart of the drivetrain

The crankset is part of the transmission and a fortiori of the groupset. It transfers pedalling power and propels the bike via the chain and the cassette. It is composed of 2 or 3 chainrings and crank arms, between which sits the bottom bracket, and at the ends of which the pedals. As manufacturers strive to make cranksets lighter and stiffer, carbon cranksets are becoming increasingly common.
