How to set up your position on your road bike?
Have you just finished building your road bike, or is the position on the one you already have not optimal? Here is how to carry out a correct basic fitting.

- Tools: Tape measure | Thin, rigid object (e.g. notebook) | Spirit level | Allen key set | Plumb line
Steps
- Adjust the saddle height using the following formula: inseam x 0.885 = saddle height "bottom bracket axle to saddle top".
- Adjust the saddle tilt: as a starting point, make sure it is horizontal.
Probikeshop tip: for women, it is preferable to tilt the saddle slightly forward.
- With the crank arm horizontal in front, adjust the saddle setback. Once seated on the saddle, use a plumb line to find the position so that the front of your knee is aligned with your pedal axle.
- Once fitted on the bike, adjust the handlebar tilt so that the drop position is comfortable.
- Then position the levers so that their top is between 1 and 2 cm above the handlebar.
Probikeshop tip: fine-tune these adjustments afterwards based on your sensations after a few rides.
