Training is the key to improving performance. In order to optimise this work time, it is essential to be able to quantify, display and then analyse it. The POWERTAP power meter system is a true training tool that allows you to precisely measure the cyclist's power and display it on a computer/smartphone, then analyse it using software.
How do POWERTAP power meters work?
Power (W) = Torque (N.m) x Angular velocity
POWERTAP power meters base their technology on the principle of strain gauging (i.e. the measurement of deformations). Mechanical power is measured through the deformation of strain gauges. Thanks to the constant deformation of these calibrated parts, the system measures the torque (in N.m).
The measurement of angular velocity depends on the component in which the power meter is integrated. For a crankset or pedals, for example, it corresponds to the pedalling cadence, whereas for a hub, it corresponds to the rotation speed of the rear wheel.
All POWERTAP power meters are compatible with computers and/or smartphones that work with ANT+ technology or Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).
Accuracy of POWERTAP systems
POWERTAP power meters measure power with a accuracy of +/- 1.5%. The accuracy of a power meter is essential for training at the right intensities. Numerous independent scientific studies and research projects validate this accuracy.
PowerAgent software
The PowerAgent software allows you to analyse peak power, time spent at different intensities (power and heart rate), average speed, cadence and distance, among other information. It also allows you to visualise training load (TSS), normalised power and session intensity. As a result, it is possible to objectively track long-term performance in order to optimise training and improve results.
