The new benchmark

Smooth, precise, ultra-reliable.

We had the privilege (and the joy) of testing the brand-new Shimano XTR Wireless drivetrain in an exclusive preview.
Verdict? A concentration of precision, smoothness and reliability built for performance.

From the very first ride, Daniel, our tester, was categorical:
"I thought the gears weren't working… In reality, the shift was so fast and silent that I didn't even realise I had gone from 1st to 3rd."

  • Mounted on a Santa Cruz Hightower with a 10/51 configuration and a 32-tooth chainring, the drivetrain was put to the test in the Vercors, between committed all-mountain and long enduro descents.
Result: "Even under load, on steep gradients, the shifting remains ultra-responsive. You feel confident."

The new shifter is compact and well protected in the event of a crash. The control buttons are fully customisable, and the ability to programme multiple shifts in a single click is a real advantage in racing. The smoothness is remarkable, both on climbs and descents, with no jerks or misalignment — a real advantage over mechanical drivetrains.

  • The rear derailleur won us over with its compact design, its integrated protected battery, and above all its thickened carbon cage and solid jockey wheels designed to withstand branches and extreme conditions.

    "Every detail is designed for
reliability. Shimano makes no compromises on weight either: this is pure XTR, built for competition."

In the field, the Shadow ES stabilisation system works wonders: on descents of 1,000 m of elevation loss, no notable chain slap. Battery life is also very much present.

  • Compatible with all standard derailleur hangers and Shimano 12-speed drivetrains, this groupset allows for an easy migration to wireless, without changing cassette or chain (subject to wear).

Bluetooth pairing, whether manual or via the E-Tube app, is fast and intuitive.
Setup? Around 15 to 20 minutes for a full protocol. Di2 regulars will find their bearings instantly.

Special mention finally for the new XTR Enduro carbon wheels: "The steering precision is incredible. Every pedal stroke is transmitted. A very pleasant surprise."

In summary

The Shimano XTR Wireless sets the bar very high. It combines technology, robustness and performance without compromise, perfectly built for demanding competitors. Probikeshop gives it a 100% seal of approval.
